Associate Member of the Forsyth Institute and affiliated professor at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.

  •  University of Istanbul, DDS, MSc, 1991

  •  Dentistry University of Istanbul, PhD, 1998, Periodontology

  •  Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, CAGS, 2004, Periodontology

Prof. Dr. Kantarci investigates the molecular mechanisms and ways of resolving inflammation in patients with periodontal disease and how systemic diseases are connected to this condition. One of his recent works, for example, is concerned with the association between Alzheimer's disease and periodontal disease.

In addition, the researcher studies saliva as a diagnostic tool for oral and systemic diseases. In parallel, he researches the role of osteoblasts and osteoclasts during orthodontic dental movement and is applying new techniques to decrease orthodontic treatment time in patients. This includes the use of minimally invasive surgical approaches and non-invasive technologies such as visible light.

Associate member and Director of the Forsyth Institute's Clinical and Translational Research Center in Cambrigde (USA)

  • University of Hacettepe (Ankara-Turkey), DDS, MSc,1988, Periodontology

  •  Dentistry University of Hacettepe (Ankara-Turkey), PhD, 1995, Boston

  • University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, CAGS, 2004, Periodontology

Prof. Hasturk seeks to understand the links between oral diseases and the rest of the body. Her line of research is focused on diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other conditions that share inflammatory pathways common to periodontal disease.

In addition, Prof. Hasturk investigates the response before and after periodontal therapy in diabetics, evaluating pro and anti-inflammatory mediators in lymph, crevicular gingival fluid and gingival tissue. She also studies the behavior of endogenous anti-inflammatory lipid mediators in limiting the inflammatory response in diabetes, by modulating the improvement in the functional responses of these cells.
